Slaughter Stream Cave

Cave details

Length:
14 km
Vertical range:
100 m
Region:
Forest Of Dean

A loose entrance series enters a main streamway. Downstream the passage has several unusual rock formations as well as some very long, small passages. Upstream has more vertical development and a few more oxbows. Animal bones have been found in unusual parts of the cave suggesting that there were previously more entrances. The cave has some good calcite decorations in places, but these are not very common. The cave is more of interest for the streamways. A summary can be found on the Royal Forest of Dean Caving Club site. A description of one route could be found on Martin Beale's site, but this seems to have disappeared. It is still available via archive.org.
