Car Pot

Cave details

Length:
< 1 km
Vertical range:
104 m
Region:
Northern Dales

Strictly speaking, this cave is part of the Gaping Gill system. However, the visual connection with Gaping Gill is a bedding just 10 cm high. In most cases, this would have been enlarged to allow access, but the connection has been intentionally left impassable to protect the formations in Car Pot, which are supposedly quite good by local standards. Since the connection has never been passed by cavers (and could not be passed without significant enlargement), it is counted as a separate cave in this database, even though it is obviously the same system. Car Pot's own entrance series is exceptionally tight in places, and leads down several pitches to the main passage which contains the formations, and the connection to Gaping Gill.
